the best way to reset when you're feeling stressed

In our previous blog post, we mentioned the book, The Power of Full Engagement. (Have you looked it up yet? Life changing!) The main purpose of this book is to teach us that managing our energy/mood/emotional well-being is the number one key to ultimate productivity. It seems that we've had it so backwards for so long with countless tips and tricks being thrown our way about how to manage our time better, when really, the ultimate trick is to just get in line with our most peaceful, happiest self, and then watch as our productivity levels skyrocket.
Our natural tendency as humans, or at least what we've been told to believe, is that when you feel as if your energy level is down, or when you're experiencing stress and anxiety, the best thing to do is just "push through" or "keep hustling". Not so! The fascinating thing is that you'll spend at least twice as long on your task at hand if you're in a difficult mental state while working on it. The best thing we could possibly do, is ease our stress, get back in line with what makes us feel happy and peaceful and THEN finish our tasks. And then be amazed at how efficiently they get done.
So with that in mind, here are some of our favorite and most effective ways to reset when we're feeling stressed or out of alignment.
Mediation - There are countless ways to meditate, and thousands of resources online for guided meditation, but lately we've been working on just clearing our mind for 5 minutes at a time. That's it! If our thoughts start to rush in again (they always seem to), we just focus solely on our breathing, and clear them out again.
A gratitude walk - Feeling gratitude is one of the highest and clearest emotions that we can experience, so we try to capture it as much as possible. Changing surroundings, getting outside, breathing fresh air, and giving thanks for every incredible thing that we have, no matter how small, gets us to a better head space faster than anything else.
Eating healthy foods - It just makes you feel better! And making one good choice to take care of ourselves, without fail, makes it so much easier to continue with another good choice.
Doing something fun - At first, this one might be harder to do and feel like you're still being "productive" but we promise it works and is the BEST possible thing you can do with your time. Find something that makes you happy, makes you smile, and is fun, and go out and do it.
Those are our top faves! Let us know if you try any of these and how they affect your day/work-flow!
